As a young girl I became enthralled with Clara Barton.  Clara’s life story serving soldiers in the Civil War and later founding the Red Cross intrigued me so much that I fell in love with this period of American History. She made such a lasting impression on me that I used to tell people I planned to be a nurse half the day and a teacher the other half of the day.  That career comment came true.  I served as an educator for 40 years and in my position as a school counselor I had plenty of opportunities to play nurse. In my free time, I enjoy collecting antiques, reading, doing family history, church work, serving in educational  organizations, and participating in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)
