Jim Dougherty

I started researching my ancestors in 1976 before we had personal computers in our home. Basically, it was footwork for me, starting with an old trunk full of pictures and an old family bible that my mother gave to me, which helped me get started. Then in early 1999, I was called as the director of the Family History Center which was located in the Jones Center for families. We only had filmstrips and microfiche that we could order from Salt Lake family history library to research my family line. While I was director, I taught numerous genealogy classes from beginning genealogy to advanced genealogy to internet genealogical research. I also helped organize two family history fairs that were held locally. I have continued doing research since then. Now, there is so much info on the internet that it makes research fun and easy. Since I retired in 2021, I spend 2-3 hours every day researching my family roots. When I retired I had 9600 ancestors between my wife and I. As of July 11 2023 I have found 27491 ancestors, thanks to Ancestry.com and Family Search and other internet sites. I continue adding ancestors every day.
